Happy Hour runs 3pm to 6pm, the stretch of afternoon when the last lunch tables are still lingering and the light over the harbour starts turning gold, well before dinner service begins.

Settle in for a very sharply-priced Tyrrell’s Shiraz or Semillon, or a Prosecco. If you’re in the mood to keep it classy, or want to upgrade to something more in line with the status of the afternoon, opt for a Taittinger Réserve Brut, a delightfully light Albert Bichot ‘La Madonne’ Fleurie Gamay, or an import from Burgundy, our Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis.

White Anchovy Toast, Burnt Pickled Leek, Green Olive is a steal at $4 each, and a delightful alternative to the undersized oysters so prevalent at happy hour across the city. Steersons’ white anchovies (boquerones) are fresh anchovy fillets cured in vinegar rather than salt, so they’re pale, mild and tangy instead of intensely salty.

The beer list runs from Asahi and Balter XPA through to Heaps Normal XPA for anyone not drinking.

The cocktail list is where Happy Hour turns golden. Espresso Martini, Negroni, Passionfruit Margarita, Hugo Spritz, Aperol Spritz and Collins, made exactly as they are at full price, simply luxury now at a more accessible price. Pillar and Aurelia are Happy Hour exclusives built on Appleton Estate rum, mango puree, pandan syrup, lime and milk.

Not drinking doesn’t mean drinking less well here either. Non-Negroni and Early Bird are made with the same care as everything with alcohol in it.

The Steersons Happy Hour is still finding its shape, and we have many more surprises in store. Keep returning to see what’s next on the list for the harbourside’s nicest happy hour.
